- Maj. Gen. George B. McClellan, USA, earnestly urges upon Brig. Gen. Don Carlos Buell, USA, for an advance into East Tennessee.

- The Ship Island, Mississippi, Expedition sails from Hampton Roads, VA, with the mission to establish a base of operations against New Orleans, LA and vicinity.

- Federal expedition from Helena, AR, to the vicinity of Grenada, MS. (Nov 27-Dec 6)
- The Confederate capture of the steamboat, New River, near New River Landing, LA.
- Skirmish at Carthage, MO.
- Skirmish at Mill Creek, TN, with the Texas Rangers.
- Maj. Gen. Ambrose E. Burnside, USA, meeting with President Lincoln, declines to use Lincoln's suggested strategy of using a three-pronged attack south of the Rappahannock River, choosing instead to make a direct assault on Gen. Robert E. Lee's Army of Northern Virginia lines.
Friday November 27 1863
- Brig. Gen. Claudius Charles Wilson, CSA, dies of camp fever sickness at Ringgold, GA.
- Engagement at Ringgold Gap, Taylor's Ridge, GA.
- Skirmish at La Fayette, KY, where the attacking Rebel force steals all the Union horses they could find, crossing the Cumberland River and to safety aboard the steam-boat, Duke.
- Skirmish at Monticello, KY, as the Confederates capture the town and the Federal garrison there consisting of 153 Federals.
- Brig. Gen. John Hunt Morgan, CSA, escapes from the Ohio State Penitentiary, Columbus, OH, along with some of his subordinate officers, making it safely back to Confederate lines.
- Maj. Gen. Gordon Granger, USA, is ordered, with 2nd and 3rd US Army Divisions, of the 4th Army US Army Corps, (Army of the Cumberland), to the relief of Maj. Gen. Ambrose E. Burnside, USA, under siege by Lieut. Gen. James Longstreet, CSA, at Knoxville, TN.
- Skirmish at Catlett's Station, VA.
- Action near New Hope Church, VA, with Gen. Robert E. Lee, CSA.
- The engagement at Payne's Farm, VA, and following as Gen. Robert E. Lee, CSA, contests the advance of the Army of the Potomac, and Maj. Gen. George G. Meade, USA.
- Skirmishes at Robertson's Tavern, or Locust Grove, VA, with Gen. Robert E. Lee, USA.
- The capture of a Union wagon train near the Wilderness Church, VA, by Gen. Robert E. Lee's, CSA, Confederates.
Sunday November 27 1864
- Federal scout from Little Rock to Benton, AR, where the Yankees are ambushed by a party of bushwackers. (Nov 27-30)
- Skirmish at Sylvan Grove, GA, the "March to the Sea," Campaign by Maj. Gen. Wm. Sherman.
- Action at Waynesborough, GA, with Maj. Gen. William T. Sherman, USA, and opposing Confederate Cavalry. (Nov 27-28)
- Federal expedition from Baton Rouge, LA, against the Mobile and Ohio Railroad, and skirmish at the Chickasawha Bridge, MS. (Dec 10), as Maj. Gen. Dabney H. Maury, CSA, commanding the District of the Gulf confronts Brig. Gen. John W. Davidson, USA's expedition. The Federals have a difficult time moving through the region due to destroyed bridges, and roads. The Federals manage to cross the Amite, Pearl and Black Rivers, as well as Red Creek, traveling through Greensburg, Franklinton, Fordville, Columbia, Augusta, and over the Leaf and Chickasawha Rivers, cutting a path of destruction along the way. - The explosion of the federal vessel, Greyhound, Maj. Gen. Benjamin F. Butler's, USA, floating headquarters, on the James River, VA, possibly by Confederate agents.
- Skirmishes at:
- Moorefield (Nov 27 & 28), where Brig. Gen. Thomas L. Rosser, CSA, surrounds and captures a small party of Union soldiers.
- affair at New Creek (Nov 28), where Rosser surprises and captures Fort Kelley, along with 200 wagons, large amount of quartermaster, ordnance and commissary stores and
- skirmish (Nov 28) at Piedmont, WV. Maj. Gen. Philip H. Sheridan, USA, is upset and calls the capture of Fort Kelley, a Federal disgrace. Sheridan's nature is not of one to accept such actions.
