- Engagement near Grimball's Landing, James Island, SC, with the Confederate attack being repulsed, with the help of the US steam sloop, Pawnee.

- Brig. Gen. John Randolph Chambliss, CSA, is mortally wounded on the Charles City Road, outside Richmond, VA, during an encounter with the Federal Cavalry under Brig. Gen. David M. McMutrie Gregg, USA.
- Brig. Gen. Victor Jean Baptiste Girardey, CSA, is mortally wounded near Fussell's Mill, on the Darbytown Road, VA, while resisting a Federal attack on the east end of Richmond, VA.
- Daniel McCook, Jr, USA, is appointed Brig. Gen.
- Cavalry skirmish at Ellistown, MS, with Maj. Gen. Forrest, CSA, and Maj. Gen. Andrew J. Smith, USA.
- Skirmish on the Clear Fork, near Warrensburg, Western MO.
- Skirmish on the Fayette road, near Huntsville, Western MO.
- Skirmish on James Island, Charleston Harbor, SC, and vicinity.
