  • Gen. Joseph Eggleston Johnston, CSA, is ordered to re-enforce the Army of the Peninsula, CSA, under Maj. Gen. John Bankhead Magruder, CSA, VA.
  • Operations in the vicinity of Middleburg and White Plains, VA, as Col. Jonathan W. Geary, USA, 28th PA, discovers burnt bridges, cut telegraph wires, etc. (Mar 27-31)

  • Skirmish at Madisonville, KY.
  • Skirmish on the Rio Bonito, the New Mexico Territory, with Indians. Arrows found indicate they were Apaches.
  • Skirmish on the Woodbury Pike, TN, with Union cavalry.

  • Affair at Branchville, AR, the Camden (AR) Campaign.
  • Skirmish at Brooks' Mill, AR, the Camden (AR) Campaign.
  • Federal scout from Little Rock to Benton, AR, where the Yankees arrest 3 women who helped the Rebels hide some stolen bales of cotton. (Mar 27-31)
  • Federal expedition from Pine Bluff to Mount Elba and Long View, AR, the Camden (AR) Campaign. (Mar 27-31)
  • Skirmish with Indians on the Eel River, CA, where the pursuing Federals attack a large Indian camp, killing 5 Indian men, and capturing 3 women and 3 young children.
  • Skirmish at Columbus, KY, with Maj. Gen. Nathan Bedford Forrest's, CSA, Cavalry.
  • Skirmish at Livingston, MS.
  • Affair in Deepwater Township, MO, where the Federals capture some notorious bushwackers. Given a trial, found guilty and ordered to be executed, the men were allowed to write letters, will their belongings and calmly walked over to their graves, knelt down and met death in a most courageous manner. If another convicted buckwacker wasn't so horribly mutilated by numerous buckshot, the Federals would have executed him too. The doctor said he was going to die anyway.
  • Affair at Louisville, TN, as a band of mounted Rebels dashed into town, captured a Union citizen, and fled towards Maryville.
Monday March 27 1865
  • The Federal siege and the Capture of the Spanish Fort, AL, the Mobile, AL, Campaign. (Mar 27-Apr 8)
  • Maj. Gen. Frederick Steele's US column reaches Canoe Station, AL, the Mobile, AL, Campaign.
  • The 10th US Army Corps is reorganized and Maj. Gen. Alfred H. Terry, USA, is assigned to its command, NC.
  • Brig. Gen. Elkanah Greer, CSA, is assigned to the command of the Reserve Corps in the State of Texas, vice Brig. Gen. Jerome B. Robertson, CSA, is relieved, and assigned to the command of a brigade.
  • President Abraham Lincoln meets with Lieut. Gen. Ulysses S. Grant, Maj. Gen. William T. Sherman, and Admiral David Porter, USN, at City Point, VA, aboard the River Queen, to discuss his policy on Confederate surrender and reconstruction.
