- Skirmish at Pinos Altos, the Arizona Territory.
- The destruction of Confederate salt-works on Goose Creek near St. Mark's, FL.
- The Confederate Prison Camp at Andersonville, GA, (officially called Camp Sumter) is put in service near Americus, GA, to help relieve the overcrowding of prisoners at Belle Isle, Richmond, VA.
- Skirmish at Madisonville, MS, the Meridian, MS, Expedition.
- Skirmish at Sharon, MS, the Meridian, MS, Expedition.
- Skirmish at the Stone Church, near Catoosa Platform, MS, the final encounter during the Union demonstration on Dalton, GA.
- Affair near Poplar Bluff, MO, where the Yankee scouts burn a Rebel wagon train, killing some jayhawkers in the process.
- Skirmish in the Sequatchie Valley, TN, with many Union prisoners, Col. John M. Hughs, CSA, Confederate operations in Middle Tennessee.

- Brig. Gen. Morgan L. Smith, USA, assumes the command of the District of Vicksburg, MS.
- Brig. Gen. John McNeil, USA, assumes the command of the District of Central Missouri.
- Skirmish near Sturgeon, MO, with guerrillas in the dark.
- Skirmish at Cloud's House, SC.
- Skirmish near Mount Elon, SC.
- Final operations in the Shenandoah Valley, VA. (Feb 27-Apr 23)
- Federal expedition from Winchester, VA, to the front of Petersburg, VA. (Feb 27-Mar 28)
- Maj. Gen. Philip Henry Sheridan's US command starts from Winchester, VA, to Petersburg, VA, as Brig. Gen. Wesley Merritt, USA, moves with 10,000 Union Cavalry to operate against the Virginia Central Railroad and the James River Canal. Merrit is also ordered to capture Lynchburg, VA. Lieut. Gen. Jubal Early, CSA, attempts to gather as many Confederates as possible to deflect this latest Union advance.
- Gen. Robert E. Lee, CSA, is and has been concerned over the large number of desertions his army has been facing. The Confederate Army of Northern Virginia's strength is rapidly dwindling.
