  • The Confederate capture of the side-wheeler, St. Nicholas, near Baltimore, MD, led by George N. Holllins.
Friday June 27 1862
  • Skirmish at Stewart's Plantation, AR, with a Rebel ambush of a Union forage train, about 8 miles from Village Creek.
  • Federal reconnaissance to the Williams Bridge, Amite River, LA, and skirmish. (Jun 27-29)
  • Gen. Braxton Bragg assumes permanent command of Confederate Dept. No. 2, MS, as Federal mortars continued to bombard Vicksburg, MS.
  • The Battle of Gaines' Mill, Cold Harbor, or the Chickahominy River, VA, as Brig. Gens. John Bell Hood, and George Pickett, CSA, finally break through Brig. Gen. Fitz John Porter's, USA, lines; Maj. Gen. Thomas J. Jackson, CSA, failing to attack.
  • Skirmish at Fair Oaks, VA, with Maj. Gen. John Magruder, CSA.
  • Action at Garnett's Farm, VA, with the Federals retreating toward Harrison Landing, VA, and the protection of US Gunboats.
Saturday June 27 1863
  • Brig. Gen. Martin Edwin Green, CS A, is mortally wounded by a Federal sharpshooter while scanning the enemy's position at Vicksburg, MS, shot through the head, and dying instantly.

  • The Army Corps of Lieut. Gens. James Longstreet and A. P. Hill, CSA, arrive at Chambersburg, PA.
  • The capture of York, PA, by Maj. Gen. Jubal A. Early, CSA.

  • Manchester, TN, is occupied by the Union forces.

Monday June 27 1864
  • Skirmish in Big Cove Valley, 6 miles northeast of Huntsville, AL, as the Federals chase the Rebels into the hills near Blevingston Gap.
  • Federal scout from Brownsville, AR, to the vicinity of St. Charles, were bushwackers and Confederates are reported to be in large numbers. (Jun 27-29)
  • The Battle of Kennesaw Mountain, GA, where Gen. Joseph E. Johnston's, CSA, well entrenched army repels and slaughters the attacking columns of Maj. Gen. William T. Sherman, USA.
  • Brig. Gen. Charles Garrison Harker, USA, is mortally wounded while leading his men in a charge atop his horse against the Confederate position at the Battle of Kennesaw Mountain, Marietta, GA, receiving his death wound from a Confederate sharpshooter.
  • Brig. Gen. Daniel McCook, Jr., USA, is mortally wounded at the Battle of Kennesaw Mountain, Marietta, GA, while leading his men in a charge against the Confederate earthworks.
  • Affair at Crittenden, KY, as the town is attacked by Confederates assembling to capture a wagon train. The Federals rush foward men to protect the train.
  • Affairs near Dunksburg, MO, against guerrilla. (Jun 27-28)
