- Operations in the Humboldt Military District, CA, against Indians. (Mar 10-Jul 10)
- Union forces, mostly black, and led by Col. Higginson, USA, reoccupy Jacksonville, FL.
- President Jefferson Davis meets with Lieut. Gen. John C. Pemberton, CSA, at Vicksburg, MS.
- The Confederate demonstration on Plymouth, NC, is driven off by the nearby Union gunboats. (Mar 10-13)
- Federal scout to La Fayette and Moscow, TN, and skirmish. (Mar 11-16)
- Skirmish near Murfreesborough, TN.
- President Lincoln issues amnesty to all soldiers absent without leave if they report before Apr 1
Thursday March 10 1864
- Federal expedition from Batesville to Wild Haws, Strawberry Creek, etc, AR. (Mar 10-12)
- Confederate guerrilla raid on Clinton, KY, taking government horses, and breaking into local stores.
- Confederate guerrilla raid on Mayfield, KY, breaking into stores of local Union men.
- The Red River Campaign, LA, begins as Maj. Gen. Nathaniel P. Banks, USA, begins to concentrate troops at New Orleans, LA, for a drive into the heartland of the Confederate Trans-Mississippi region. (Mar 10-May 22)
- Detachment from the Army of the Tennessee, under the command of Brig. Gen. Andrew J. Smith, USA. embarks at Vicksburg, MS, to assist Maj. Gen. Nathaniel P. Banks, USA.
- Skirmish in White County, TN, with Union Cavalry; the Rebels are forced to retreat with casualties on both sides during Col. John M. Hughs', CSA, Confederate operations in Middle Tennessee.
- Skirmishes near Charlestown and at Kabletown, WV, where the superior Union force pursuing Lieut. Col. John S. Mosby, CSA gets the worst of this engagement.
- Maj. Gen. Franz Sigel, USA, supersedes Brig. Gen. Benjamin F. Kelley, USA, in the command of the Dept. of West Virginia.

- Maj. Gen. William Henry Chase Whiting, CSA, dies as a prisoner of war at Fort Columbus, NY, from his wounds received at the Federal assault on Fort Fisher, NC, on Jan 15

- Engagement at Monroe's Cross-Roads, SC, where Brig. Gen. Hugh Judson Kilpatrick, USA, defeats Lieut. Gen. Wade Hampton, CSA.
