- Flag Officer Daniel Glasgow Farragut, USN, moves his naval fleet to below Forts Jackson and St. Philip, Mississippi River, near New Orleans, LA, the mortar fleet of Commander David Dixon Porter, USN, as well as Union transports carrying Maj. Gen. Benjamin F. Butler's, USA, men, joining Farragut.
- Skirmish near Blackwater Creek, MO, with mounted bushwackers.
- Skirmish at Savannah, TN.
- Skirmish at Columbia Furnace, VA, with Maj. Gen. Banks, USA.

- The passage of the Vicksburg, MS, batteries by Union gunboats and transports, under Admiral David Porter, USN, including the following: Benton, Carondolet, La Fayette, Louisville, Mound City, Pittsburg, Price, and the Tuscumbia, and the chartered steamer transports, Forest Queen, Henry Clay, and the Silver Wave, which were protected with hay and cotton bales.
- Federal expedition from New Berne toward Kinston, NC, in pursuit of the retreating Maj. Gen. D. H. Hill, CSA. (Apr 16-21)
- Affairs at Hill's and Rodman's Points, NC, after Maj. Gen. Daniel Henry Hill, CSA, ends his siege of Washington, NC.
- Skirmish near Eagleville, TN.
- Affair on the Pamunkey River, near West Point, VA, including the Confederate cannonading of two Union vessels, inflicting casualties; the vessels retreat down the York River.
