- Ben McCulloch, CSA, is appointed Brig. Gen.
- Pro-Union demonstrations are held in San Francisco, CA.
- Riot in Saint Louis, MO, continues from the previous day which results in several additional deaths. The 5th Missouri Reserve Regiment quell the secessionist uproar.
- Brig. Gen. William S.Harney, USA, resumes the command of the Dept. of the West.
- Pro-Union demonstrations are held in Wheeling, VA.
Sunday May 11 1862
- Brig. Gen. John Selden Roane, CSA, is assigned to the command in Arkansas.
- Affair at Cave City, KY, where Col. John Hunt Morgan, CSA, captured a passenger train on the Louisville and Nashville Railroad, KY.
- Skirmish at Pulaski, TN.
- With the loss of Norfolk, VA, the Confederates destroy their ironclad, the CSS Merrimac, James River, VA, as she no longer has a port to call home, and was forced to move up the James River into water too shallow.
- Skirmish on Bowling Green Road, near Fredericksburg VA.
- Skirmish at Princeton, WV.
Monday May 11 1863
- Skirmishes at Mount Vernon and Taylor's Creek, or Crowley's Ridge, AR, with Union Cavalry and Brig. Gen. John S. Marmaduke, CSA.
- Federal Cavalry raid on the New Orleans and Jackson Railroad, near Crystal Springs, MS, with destruction of railroad lines.
- Federal Cavalry expedition from La Grange, TN, to Panola, MS, and skirmishes:

- Maj. Gen. James Ewell Brown "Jeb" Stuart, CSA, is mortally wounded at the combat of Yellow Tavern, VA, while defending Richmond, VA, from Maj. Gen. Philip Sheridan's, USA, cavalry raid, receiving a pistol wound in his stomach.
- Federal expedition from Point Lookout, MD, aboard the transport steamer, Star, and the gunboat, Yankee, to the Rappahannock River, VA, for the purpose of destroying Confederate torpedoes. {May 11-14)
- Maj. Gen. Edward R. S. Canby, USA, assumes the command of the Military Division of West Mississippi.
- Federal reconnaissance from Hilton Head, aboard the US transports, Croton, Plato and Thomas Foulks, to Daufuskie Island, SC.
- Skirmish at Blacksburg, WV, during the Federal operations on the Virginia and Tennessee Railroad.
Thursday May 11 1865
- Lewis Baldwin Parsons, USA, is appointed Brig. Gen.
- Brig. Gen. M. Jeff Thompson. CSA. surrenders his Confederate command at Chalk Bluff. AR.
- The Confederate Commerce Raider, CSS Stonewall, arrives at Havana, Cuba.
- Federal expedition with the 62nd US Colored Infantry, from Brazos Santiago, TX, with skirmishes (May 12 & 13) at Palmetto Ranch and (May 13) at White's Ranch. (May 11-14)
