Hill, CSA at Fredericksburg, VA. The Cavalry Corps under Maj. Gen. JEB Stuart, CSA, is sent on a protective covering of the army's advance.

- Federal expedition from Yorktown to Walkerton and Aylett's, VA, aboard the US transport Winnisimet, accompanied by the US gunboats, Commodore Morris, Commodore Jones, and Smith Briggs up the Pamunkey River where at Aylett they destroy a Rebel iron foundry making rifle and cannon shot, burn a grist mill, capture horses, etc. Maj. Gen. George E. Pickett, CSA, is reported 10 miles away at Newtown with 10,000 Rebels. (Jun 4-5)
