Saturday November 14 1863
  • Federal expedition from Maysville to Whitesburg and Decatur, AL, sent to thoroughly scout the country situated between the Memphis and Charleston Railroad and the Tennessee River, and drive out or capture the marauding rebel bands known to be roving over that country, pressing horses, mules, cattle, sheep, hogs, wheat, etc. and running them across the river for Confederate use. The plantations in this area are very large, generally 2,000 to 4,000 acres each. Corn, horses, etc. are in abundant supply. (Nov 14-17)
